What Forum Participants Are Saying
What surprised you about the Future Forum process?
- The most surprising part is that there is a national effort to determine what CPAs must do to position themselves to do business in the future. I am used to the profession being reactive rather than proactive. The new approach is refreshing.
- I really had not taken time to consider the worldwide or even nation-wide application of the changes likely to take place in the next 15-20 years. The thought process was both surprising and valuable.
- I was surprised by the number of CPAs in industry and government who participated in the Forum. When I was invited to participate, I really was not sure if I would be a very good participant because I do not work in public accounting. I found that this was not the case. In addition, I was surprised by the similarity in the responses provided by both public and non-public groups.
- The success of the Future Forum process depends entirely on [participants'] input.
What did you find most valuable?
- I found that it caused me to focus on the most likely scenario for the future, which I had not considered before.
- The whole thought process involved in the forum
the time we spent reflecting on where we should be going!
- The facilitator's depth and understanding of global situations and influences was fascinating.
- The opportunity to discuss issues with CPAs from a variety of backgrounds.
- What stuck with me the most was that doctors were not proactive and they lost their position in the marketplace. They are now dictated to and taken over by the managed health-care providers. The effort spent in the Future Forums was very enlightening and thought-provoking.
- The most valuable was the process of evaluating how our (my) skills and interests may fit in the next decade or two
it was very stimulating
- Before participating in the Forum, I hadn't really given much thought about where CPAs were going as a profession. The Forum really made me think about the future and the fact that we have the ability to proactively shape the future, if we plan and adapt now. It really woke me up and, as a result, I have been setting more personal goals and working harder to position myself for the future.
- It was valuable interacting with others of the profession in what I would consider a strategic planning session. Although somewhat challenging and maybe even disturbing, the process forced me to think outside of the box.
- The Forum was a healthy process both personally, as well as professionally. Thanks for the opportunity.
